Marine Life: At least 75 percent of all coral species can be found in Raja Ampat, divers can expect a range of topography from soft corals and sea fans, to hard corals, seagrass beds, mangroves, shallow reefs, deep drop-offs, caves, black sand, and white sand. Giant manta rays, sea turtles, sharks, cuttlefish, pipefish, various seahorse species, and massive schools of reef fish are the norm, plus the delightful wobbegong sharks and epaulette sharks inhabit these waters too
We head for Sorong, Western Papua. We will be riding all night to reach Misool early the next morning. The variety you will see here will astounds you. Covering gigantic sea fans, soft coral in all colors, massive table corals, and many fish, an abundance of marine life, a variety of undersea seamounts, smaller pinnacles, coral walls, and coral gardens covered in soft corals in all hues covered. The elusive epaulette shark or walking shark can be found here rather easily. By “walking” nearer and nearer its prey, this nocturnal shark stealthily approaches it.
Batanta boasts amazing muck diving areas with the most vivid nudibranchs you could ever imagine, alien-looking animals, and exquisite coral bummies.
Even more nutrients bringing in larger predators including gigantic trevallies, yellowfin tuna, rainbow runners, and even some sharks like blacktip, grey reef, white tip sharks can be found over the Dampier Strait.
