You will get the ferry from Sorong to Waisai where the Cruise Director and the crew will meet you up and help arrange the Marine Park fees before bringing you to the boat. If guests are able to get the morning ferry we will have our first check dive to test out equipment and get the first view of Raja Ampat’s bountiful marine life in the area around Friwen. The dives here are easy and generally not so affected by the current so they are perfect for your first dive in this amazing region. If you are lucky you might even see your first wobbegong shark!
We are on the boat and the adventure has started, we will now be around the area of Mioskon where you will find several of Raja Ampat’s most famous dive sites. Depending on the group we have multiple options including Blue Magic famous for being one of the sites where we occasionally get the huge oceanic mantas coming in…but even without mantas, we are talking about amazing dive sites that will get you the first impressions of how diverse Raja Ampat truly is when it comes to what you might see! Did we mention the chance to see the fruit bats flying out to feed at night?
Time to move into the central parts of Dampier Strait, on day three we are changing the pace and moving towards the famous island of Arborek. Here we can choose between locations like Sawandarek jetty with its massive green turtles and occasional schools of devil rays, we have Manta Sandy and Manta Ridge with its local population of reef mantas not to mention the possibility to do a night dive at Arborek jetty where you have the chance to see the endemic walking shark of Raja Ampat.
Now we all know one another and love diving here but where are those Instagram moments you have all been seeing? Well, day 3 usually includes Melissa’s Garden for you hardcore divers and Melissa’s Garden boasts about being one of the best hard coral gardens in the world but not only that we will also give you some spectacular sightseeing…a trek to Piaynemo so you can finally be a part of the world that has a selfie with the best background in Indonesia!
Tired of endless amounts of fish and hard coral gardens?! Well, day number 5 we will try and get you some variation, we will sail up to Yanggefo and get some of the best soft coral gardens in the world, and then on top of that, mangroves diving! Not to mention that the spot where we sleep is the perfect place to hear the sounds of the jungle and seeing the Milky Way when all lights are gone!
We are now back in Dampier…but we have been here before? Not really! Now we are doing the central channel, and you can dive here for weeks and still see new sites. But now we are trying the central sites, Max Point, LauLau, Odtima…we have more sites than we have time to do the dive!
Everyone has got their dives up, we know advantages and disadvantages… time to get to some of the best spots. We are now back around Kri island and looking to do Cape Kri, maybe Blue Magic again…maybe Chicken Reef, who knows? We are planning to finish the day with an amazing night dive at least, coconut octopus? We have it! Pygmy cuttlefish? We have it! Very happy divers….yes, we have those too!
Helping everyone to the ferry depending on when will the flight time be, if everyone has an afternoon flight, there is the potential for a morning dive.
