Itinerary

Day 1Arrival Denpasar - Mt Batukaru Eco Lodge, Tabanan

Guests arrive at Ngurah Rai International Airport, where they will be met by a local guide and transferred to the eco-lodge, nestled high on the eastern slopes of Mt Batukaru, Bali’s second highest volcano (2,276m).
After checking into the eco-lodge, the remainder of the day is free for guests to explore the surroundings and meet the local villagers.
Dinner at leisure.
Overnight at Bali Mountain Retreat near Mt Batukaru in Tabanan.

Denpasar Ngurah Rai international Airport – Bali Mountain Retreat (55 km): 2 hours

Day 2Downhill Cycling - Jatiluwih - Batukaru Temple - Tabanan (B,L)

This morning after breakfast, guests depart by bicycle from the lodge. The route is mostly downhill over scenic roads and through traditional villages. En route, guests will see plantations and people working in the rice fields, as well as sweeping views over outstretched valleys. The ride ends at Yeh Panas hot springs where a simple picnic lunch is served. A towel for after bathing in the hot springs is provided (no changing rooms available).
The ride is easy-to-moderate and mostly downhill. As many stops can be made as guests wish, and the total duration of the ride is about 3 to 4 hours, depending on the stops.
After lunch, the driver and tour guide will pick guests up at Yeh Panas and bring them to the nearby UNESCO-listed Jatiluwih, which offers the widest panoramic view of Bali’s iconic rice terraces.
Located on a slope near the holy mountain of Batukaru, this area is known as the rice granary of Bali and one of the island’s best examples of subak style rice farming. Guests will also visit one of Bali’s nicest but least visited temples, Batukaru Temple.
Return to the eco-lodge.
Remainder of the day is free at leisure.

Day 3Tabanan - Jungle Trek - Pupuan - Bunut Bolong - Pekutatan (B,L)

After breakfast, guests depart with a local guide from Bali Mountain Retreat for a 3 to 4 hour trek in the Batukaru Nature Reserve. This jungle mountain forest walk is designed for people who want to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the protected mountain forest. Being south facing, the onshore winds give this area a high annual rainfall, resulting in lush green vegetation. The flora and fauna, now protected, are abundant in this nature reserve.
All who visit this area are amazed at its beauty – a truly wonderful hiking experience. The guide will point out amazing plant life, beautiful butterflies and if the forest allows, monkeys and Kijang deer.
Return to the eco-lodge.
Check out and enjoy lunch served at the lodge’s restaurant.
Early in the afternoon, guests leave the Bali Mountain retreat and proceed with their guide and private driver to the West Coast of Bali, known for its deserted black sandy beaches.
Drive through beautiful scenic roads and stunning rice fields via Belimbing and Pupuan, through the hills following small, off-the-beaten-path roads down to Pekutatan and the West Coast passing by Manggissari and Bunut Bolong, where the road passes through a massive hollow tree – a very unique sight.
Reach Pekutatan and check in at the hotel in the late afternoon in time to enjoy the sunset on the beautiful and quiet West Coast.

Day 4Pekutatan - Perancak Estuary - West Bali National Park (B,L)

After breakfast, leave Pekutatan and drive to the Perancak Estuary with a stop on the way to visit Rambut Siwi sea temple. Continue with a visit to a turtle conservation project where volunteers try to help these endangered animals. From here, guestswalk to the nearby port to see the colorful phinisi ships that are unique to Bugis village.
Continue to north via Negara and reach West Bali National Park.
Check into the hotel.
Late lunch is served at The Menjangan.
After check-in and lunch, guests set off from the resort to explore the surrounding mangroves on a 2-hour kayaking tour.

Day 5Bali West National Park - Snorkeling Menjangan Island (B,L)

This morning after breakfast, guests take a local boat from the resort to the nearby Menjangan Island for a snorkelling trip. Equipment and a lunchbox are provided by the resort.
Return to the hotel and the remainder of the day is free at leisure.
Dinner at leisure.
Overnight at the hotel.

Day 6West Bali National Park - Banjar - Munduk - Bedugul - Sidan (B,L)

After breakfast and check-out, guests are picked up by the driver and tour guide and driven along the North Coast to Seririt and Banjar to visit Bhrama Arama Vihara – the only Buddhist Monastery in Bali, which offers stunning views over the North Coast.
Continue up to Munduk where lunch is served in a local restaurant.
From here the drive continues to Bedugul, passing viewpoints overlooking Lake Tamblingan and Buyan, and then to Lake Bratan where guests will see the very scenic Ulun Danu Temple. The temple is set in the lake’s calm waters on several small islands, giving the impression that it is floating. There will also be a trip to a local market which is famous for its tropical fruits, vegetables and spices.
From here the drive continues to Bali Eco Village located in Sidan, near Pelaga.
Check in and the remainder of the day is free at leisure.

Ulun Danu – Bedugul Market – Pelaga – Sidan (40 km): 1 hour 20 minutes

Day 7Sekumpul Waterfalls Trekking - Bali Eco Village (B,L)

This morning after breakfast, guests are picked up by the tour guide and driver for a spectacular trek to the Sekumpul waterfalls. The guide will provide safety instructions before starting a four hour trek across remote rice fields, plantations and finally bathing in natural pools.
Along the way guests will make a stop for a coconut break before trekking down through the jungle, passing coffee and clove trees as well as coconut palms and other tropical fruit plants and trees.
After 2 hours of easy trekking, guests will reach the first waterfall and start descending the stairs for the main event: a magnificent view over seven stunning falls. Here guests can jump in the natural pool for a refreshing bath.
A simple picnic lunch is served near the waterfalls.
End the trek at the most famous fall, which is 50 meters high, and start ascending back to the village by concrete stairs (350 stairs).

Day 8Bali Eco Village - All About Coffee - Kintamani - Sidemen Valley (B,L)

Today, guests will be picked up from Bali Eco Village to learn about and help with the coffee-making process in Kiadan village, Pelaga, approximately 30 minutes’ drive from the eco lodge. Situated 1,100 meters above sea level, southeast of Mt Mangu, cool and green Kiadan is a world away from the hustle and bustle of Bali’s coastal towns. The vegetation here is lush and can be seen stretching away into distant forested mountainsides. Closest to the village however, the earth is devoted to the village’s ‘brown gold’ – coffee.
Upon arriving in the village guests will be greeted with a cup of organic Pelaga coffee and Balinese snacks. The local village guide will then take guests through each stage of the coffee-making process, from managing the plantation and picking the beans to drying, roasting and grinding. Along the way guests will meet the farmers involved in each stage.
A simple lunch is served at a local family home.
After lunch, set off to the next eco-friendly destination in Tabola Village, located in the Sidemen Valley in the province of Karangasem, eastern Bali.
On the way there, guests stop in Kintamani, a volcanic region where Mt Batur is located, with its breathtaking views. Adjacent to the volcano is the large crescent-shaped Batur Lake, surrounded by the high walls of the crater rim.
Stop for a coffee break at a local restaurant with all-encompassing views over Lake Batur.
Continue to Tabola Village in Sidemen Valley where guests will check in to Darmada Eco Resort.
Dinner is at leisure.

Day 9Sidemen - Bali Contryside - Besakih - Sidemen (B,L)

This morning after breakfast, guests are brought to Sidemen to take part in a “Balinese daily life” program. On arrival at the village guests are introduced to the Balinese locals and given a conical hat and a bamboo stick. These come in handy on the one-hour walk through rice fields which comes next.
Next it is time for guests to hone their skills as a Balinese farmer; ploughing with cows and planting rice. After this hard work guests are served a fresh coconut with its juice.
Now there are three short workshops, 20 minutes each, including activities such as cooking lessons, palm-leaf decoration, arak distillation and iron working.
A true Balinese lunch is served in the village.
After lunch the drive continues to Besakih, known as the ‘Mother Temple’ of Bali. Located on the western slopes of Mt Agung, Bali’s highest volcano (2567 m), Besakih is the largest and most important temple on the island and is regularly visited by all Balinese for special ceremonies
Overnight at Darmada Eco Resort.

Day 10Sidemen - Departure (B)

Breakfast is served at the hotel and guests are at leisure until the time for departure to the airport or South Bali beach resort.

Payment

A deposit of 25% is required when booking this tour. The remaining balance will be charged 45 days prior departure. For any bookings within 45 days of departure, the full tour amount will be charged upon booking.

Travel Insurance

The tour requires that you have adequate and valid travel insurance covering medical and personal accidents, including repatriation costs and emergency evacuation. We recommend using World Nomad’s travel insurance.

No additional cancellation fees apply for this tour. You can cancel the tour up to 45 days prior departure and avoid paying the full amount, but your deposit paid is non-refundable. No refund applies for cancellations within 45 days of departure.
