Mahakam River Tour – Sangatta (Orangutan Tour) – Mahakam River, Indonesian Sungai Mahakam, also called Koetai or Kutai, river of east-central Indonesian Borneo (Kalimantan). It rises in Borneo’s central mountain range and flows east-southeast through southern East Kalimantan province for about 400 miles (650 km) before emptying into Makassar Strait in a wide delta. The chief town along its course is Samarinda, capital of East Kalimantan, situated about 30 miles (48 km) above the river’s mouth.
Where you can find the Orangutans live much more wild in their habitat, mostly the Orangutan can be seen in their natural habitat. Several other species of animals exist in this Kutai national park, such as Bekantan Monkeys (Nasalislavartus), honey bear, deer, and at least 300 bird species

By morning flight arrive at Sepinggan Airport in Balikpapan, your guide and car will meet you and transfer you Loa Janan, you will board on a wooden house boat and depart for an amazing overnight cruise upstream on the Mahakam River the river flows from the island center down through a gorge and then out in the Makassar Strait.
Late lunch and dinner is served on boat and you will sleep in cabin on the boat (L, D).
After breakfast on the boat, you will observe the traditional life style of the river side villages and visit the local market at Muara Muntai, then take motorized canoe passing fisherman village of Jantur across the Jempang lake and ohong creek to reach Mancong village in the rainy season.
As you cross ohong creek, keep your eyes open for proboscis monkeys, macaque monitor lizards, king fisher and herons in particular.
On arrive at Mancong village, you will visit the Replica Grand Old Long House and then return to Tanjung Isuy by car.
Arrive at Tanjung Isuy you will be greeted with ceremony performed by the dayak benuaq tribe in front of their long house.
In the evening return by motorized canoe to Muara Muntai. Resume cruise up stream to Melak, lunch box will be served en-route, dinner and overnight on boat. (B, L, D)
Afte breakfast on boat, half day excursion overland by car for visiting Natural Black Orchid forest and traditional long house at Pepas Eheng and dayak coffin, afterwards return to house boat in Melak onward cruise down to Tenggarong.
Lunch, dinner is served on board and overnight in cabin on the boat. (B, L, D)
After breakfast on boat you will transfer by car to Sangatta approximately five hours drive.
Arrive at Kabo Village take motorized canoe cruise up Sangatta river approximately 30 minutes you will reach at camp Kutai National Park.
Night trekking are available and you will be accompanied with ranger and you will see black spider and night life in the jungle.
Lunch will be served en-route at local restaurant, dinner and overnight at camp floor.
After early breakfast at camp, start trekking in the tropical rain fores to search the wild orang utan’s and you will be accompanied with ranger. At noon return to camp for having lunch, afterwards return by motorized canoe cruise down Sangatta river to Kabo village and directly transfer by car to Balikpapan approximately 7 hours drive.
On the way short stop will be made for visiting Dayak Kenyah village in Pampang and you will see ear-ring lobes with many tattos on their skin, then continue to Balikpapan.
Dinner will be served at local restaurant and overnight at luxurious at New Benakutai Hotel.
After breakfast at hotel, free at leisure until on time transfer to Sepinggan Airport of Balikpapan for onward flight to your next destination.
A deposit of 25% is required when booking this tour. The remaining balance will be charged 45 days prior departure. For any bookings within 45 days of departure, the full tour amount will be charged upon booking.
